Juan Miguel Santos

I am a Profesor adjunto (Assitant Professor) at the Departamento de Computación, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales (FCEN) , Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA).

Currently, I am a staff member of the Computational Intelligence Group (directed by Dra. Lynne Parker), at the Intelligent and Emerging Computational Systems Section, Computer Science and Mathematics Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oak Ridge, Tenneesse.

I graduated in 1993, obtaining the degree of Licenciado en Ciencias de la Computación (M.Sc) from FCEN-UBA, and received my PhD degree in Computer Sciences in 1999, from FCEN-UBA and (DIAM-IUSPIM)-Universite de Aix-Marseille III, France. My PhD thesis was a "Contribution to the study and the design of reinforcement functions" postcript (zip).

I was in charge of Artificial Neural Networks courses in the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and in the Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto, RIO2000 (Córdoba, Argentina). Currently, I am in charge of a Language Theory course, Departamento de Computación, FCEN, UBA.

My publications show the main topics I am interested in: Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning and Behavior-based Robotics.

I am leading the "Efficient Reinforcement Learning for complex behaviors " project (under subcontract of the ORNL, DOE - US Dpt. of Energy), and collaborating with the projects: "UBACyT 1/TX25: Redes neuronales: un enfoque conexionista a los problemas de planeamiento de tareas y generacion de trayectorias en robótica" directed by Dr. Hugo Scolnick and "UBACyT AX35: Procesamiento de Imágenes de teledetección generadas por radar de apertura sintética y otros sensores" directed by Dra. Marta Mejail.
